Japn 404: Advanced Japanese Presentation and Communication
Course Description:
This course aims to develop advanced proficiency in communication through oral and written presentations to finalize research project for Capstone in Japanese using appropriate media. Taught in Japanese.
MLO's: This course meets MLO 1 and MLO 4.
Course Narrative:
The Japn 404 course was a large help during my capstone project. I learned how to write an academic paper in Japanese and what kinds of conjugations are used when writing in a more formal setting. We went over when each form is used as well as the difference between a written paper and a speech when it comes to writing it. These differences were not only useful while working on my capstone but also for future reference as many of the nuances of written communication will be a valuable tool for a professional life in Japan. This course also helped me better understand the ways that Japanese is presented in a formal setting. I developed the skills necessary to be able to present Japanese using a visual aid and how to format a Powerpoint with the proper conjugation. One of the ways that we developed these skills is through a series of presentations where we were able to practice our speaking as well as formatting our visual aid. Using what I learned in this course I, along with my partners, was able to complete my Japanese Powerpoint for our capstone project. This Powerpoint shows a variety of different ways that the Japanese language can be conjugated for a formal presentation.
