Course Narrative
This course broadened my understanding of more advanced Japanese, in particular vocabulary and kanji that deal with current issues. I learned many of the words necessary to discuss global warming and the vocabulary needed when discussing ways to limit your impact on the earth. This course also taught more advanced grammar structures especially the grammar needed when talking to people of a higher social standing. We also extended our knowledge of Japanese culture by discussing the etiquette required to attend a Japanese wedding as well as researching our own topics that dealt with Japanese culture. We watched many of our fellow students present on a range of topics that helped us extend our understanding of Japanese culture, I did my presentation on the etiquette needed when visiting a shinto shrine. In doing this presentation I wrote a script that allowed me to practice my newly acquired vocabulary and grammar structures. This course overall made me more able to discuss serious issues in a more formal setting.
