MLO's
This course meets MLO 1.
Course Narrative
This course looked at teaching Japanese culture in Japanese. We read several texts that taught us about different Japanese customs and history. This allowed for me to expand my knowledge of Japanese culture and history while also developing my vocabulary to include those cultural words and historical terms. We learned how to give formal presentations in Japanese on the new topics that we read about. I wrote scripts for my presentations that allowed me to practice my ability to type Japanese and practice more complex vocabulary and kanji. One of the scripts that I did, I wrote on geisha and their current role in Japanese society. This presentation allowed for me to use more complicated Japanese grammar structures to communicate an idea as well as allowed for me to apply my knowledge about Japanese history its impacts on Japanese culture. The geisha allowed for me to do this best because we learned that the geisha is a symbol of Japan but that their role in society is much more minimal than it was historically. This class developed my ability to discuss Japanese culture and history in Japanese and also increased my ability to read Japanese more proficiently.
